The Spartans believe in starting class on time.  In fact, we use a program called "Start on Time" to encourage students to be in class and on time.  Incentives include good grades, compliments, and their favorite...doughnuts!

Library
The Library is open every day from 7:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. All students are encouraged to check out books; each student must present his/her student body/ID card. This serves as the student's library card. Books are checked out for a two week period except for some reference materials which are on an overnight checkout. Notices are sent out one day after a book is due if it has not been returned. If the book still has not been returned by the date due, a fine is assessed from the day after the book was due, in the amount of ten cents for each school day it is overdue.

The Library has a wide selection of magazines available for students to read and also subscribes to two newspapers for student use. With the Library/Media Center open for one half hour before and forty minutes after school, students have ample opportunity to come in and use this center for studying and catching up on the latest news.

Library Computer Use
Each student must have a current Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), signed by both the student and his/her parent or guardian on file in order to use the computers in the library. The computers allow students to do research on CD-ROM encyclopedias; on the electronic databases, which contain nearly 200 magazines and newspapers, and the Internet. Students who use the computers in a way that is harmful, destructive, or inappropriate will be re- stricted from further use. In addition, the computers are intended for educatinal purposes, not for personal use or entertainment. All databases can be accessed at home simply long on to www.weread.net. Passwords are available in the library.

Textbooks
Textbooks are school property. They are loaned to students free of charge for their use during the year. If a textbook is lost, it must be paid for before another one is issued. (You are not buying a new one; you are paying for a lost one.)

Students will be charged for defacing or writing in a book or otherwise damaging the book beyond ordinary wear. When a textbook is issued, the textbook number is recorded and the student writes his/her name on the inside cover of the textbook in ink and is responsible for the maintenance of the book until it is collected by the teacher.

At the end of the year, when textbooks are collected, the student is responsible for returning the textbook with the same number that had been recorded when the text was issued. If the numbers do not match, the student will be assessed the cost of the original textbook.
