The Spartans believe in starting class on time. In fact, we use a program called "Start on Time" to encourage students to be in class and on time. Incentives include good grades, compliments, and their favorite...doughnuts!

Principal's Message

Dear Brookhurst Community,

Welcome to the Brookhurst Junior High School website. I am the principal, Russ Earnest, and I welcome you to look around our site and study our educational programs. I also encourage you to look at our staff pages and check up on homework assignments posted by our teachers.

Brookhurst Junior High School first opened its doors in 1956 and is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. Each classroom was modernized in 1994 and outfitted with new electricity, carpet, white boards, and lighting. In 2005, we dedicated the 100’x 50’ mural on the south side of the gym entitled “Civility” completed by our art teacher, Mr. Ken Blasius. The mural was the capstone piece to our award winning character education program spearheaded by our counselor, Mrs. Christine Pappas. Each morning the students receive character education messages in the morning announcements. Mrs. Pappas ends each story with the message, “Be kind, be responsible and be the best you can, because character counts!”

Currently, there are over 60 teachers and over 60 support staff employees. Our academic and elective programs are among the best in Orange County. We are very encouraged by the growth of our AVID program and the addition of honors classes this year.
